Introducing the Business:
Spellcaster education is an educational technology startup based in Dunedin.
We build gamified spelling support for 9-15 year old learners who require ongoing intervention. Our platform also features a comprehensive lesson planning tool and data and analytics for educators.
We currently serve around 4000 learners across NZ and Australia in a variety of settings including schools and speech therapy clinic settings
What the Business needs:
Intern One:
Pixel Artist
We are looking for a pixel artist with a good eye for detail who can create cosmetic packs for our in-game store.
We pride ourselves on having a large selection of cosmetics that are high quality, distinctive and show a bit of humour. You will need to be familiar with Aseprite and will work with our lead game engineer and regular contracting artist to ideate and ship cosmetics to the Spellcaster game.
Spellcaster is a tech-fantasy adventure game where players harness the power of spelling to move through a world made up of realms characterized by distinct biomes. Spellcaster employs a blend of 16-bit pixel and vector art to create a cozy feeling and vibrant two-dimensional world. The game's visual style draws inspiration from games like Zelda, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, Stardew Valley and Pokemon.
Spellcaster's aesthetic also draws from the idea of a fusion of magical and technological elements, similar to popular media like Ninjago and Dragon Ball Z.
Intern Two:
Tilemap Artist
We are looking for a tilemap artist to build new levels from pre-existing tilemap assets for the Spellcaster game.
Spellcaster features several distinct biomes and environments, and we are looking to create new, unique levels for these biomes. You should have a good eye for detail and a good feel for making level layouts feel both interesting and intuitive from a user experience perspective. You will work alongside our lead game engineer and will need experience working with Tiled. You may also need to learn how to use our Phaser tilemap editor to ship your levels into our game.
