Dunedin Fringe Festival 2025

Volunteer/Production Intern 

The purpose of this role is to assist the festival production team with the effective management of Dunedin Fringe Festival-run events and venues, and to provide production support for artist-run events.

This role includes helping the festival production team liaise with artists, volunteers and venues; assisting in creating production schedules; helping with the installation of lighting, staging, sound and other equipment; and assisting with the development and implementation of safety planning; and assisting the Volunteer Manager with volunteer management tasks when required. The ability to use sound and lighting equipment is useful but not a requirement, and if the candidate has the skill set or interest in learning, Dunedin Fringe will support them to learn some lighting and/or sound operation skills.

You will need to have a knowledge of, and interest in, event management and production planning, with good communication and organisational skills, a good awareness of Health and Safety requirements, and the ability to deal politely and professionally with artists, volunteers, suppliers and members of the public.

During the festival our whole team pitches in with a range of tasks relating to producing events, and it’s a fun and vibrant time of the year for our organisation.

The Dunedin Fringe Festival dates are 13-23 March 2025. Your role would begin in February 2025. You will need to bring your own computer for this role. The remuneration for this role is a stipend of $1,000 (rather than an hourly rate like previous festival intern roles), due to budget constraints. As such, we will negotiate with the successful candidate about what a reasonable time commitment looks like; however, we require the intern to be available as much as possible over the festival period.

Ticketing Intern

This role will support the Operations Manager in efficiently managing the day-to-day operations of the Dunedin Fringe Festival Box Office.

In this role, you will learn about our ticketing system, how to sell tickets and issue complimentary tickets, support artists in tracking their sales, and assist in managing the Festival’s Box Office and Front of House.

The ideal candidate will be organised and detail-oriented with strong record-keeping skills and the ability to learn new systems. They will provide friendly customer service and enhance the professional reputation of the Dunedin Fringe Festival with artists and audiences. Additionally, they will have a keen eye for detail when handling cash and EFTPOS payments. During the festival, our entire team pitches in with a range of tasks, creating a fun and vibrant atmosphere within the organization.

Marketing Intern - This role has now been filled

Graphic Design & Digital Content

Are you passionate about the creative arts and digital storytelling? We’re looking for a creative, detail-oriented Marketing Intern to assist with the strategic roll out of digital content for the Dunedin Fringe Festival 2025.

This role focuses on graphic design and the creation of engaging social media reels and stories to highlight our vibrant festival and the artists we support.

Key Responsibilities:

Design engaging graphics for festival promotion (experience with Canva preferred).

Assist with the strategic roll out of social media reels and stories during the festival.

Provide basic video editing and filming support for digital content creation.

Collaborate with the Marketing Team to ensure content aligns with the festival’s artistic vision and branding.

Work under pressure to meet tight deadlines during the lead-up to and during the festival period.

Ideal Candidate:

Strong graphic design skills (Canva experience is a plus).

Experience of video editing and filming is advantageous.

Ability to work collaboratively and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.

An appreciation for experimental arts and the artists the festival supports.

Comfortable working under pressure, with tight deadlines, while maintaining a good sense of humour.

Hours & Flexibility:

200 hours total, $27 per hour as a contractor.

Contract hours will vary week-to-week, with more hours during the festival itself.

Ideal for a student, recent graduate, or someone with another part-time role, as the position is very flexible.

You must be available during the festival, 13-23 March 2025.
